Mark E. Zipf heads the Cold Rolling Technologies, concentrating on scientific analysis and engineering / operational solutions in the cold rolling and flat products industry.
Mark is an internationally recognized expert and award winning author with over 28 years of direct, hands-on design, manufacturing and field experience in the industry, focusing on:
Most of his career has involved rolling mill design, manufacturing and installation. Prior to forming Cold Rolling Technologies, Mark was the VP of Controls Technologies and Director of Electrical Engineering at Tenova I2S (Connecticut, USA). He “cut-his-teeth” in the industry at Mill Equipment & Engineering Co. in Pittsburgh.
Mark received his Ph.D. in electrical engineering from the University of Pittsburgh, and has over 100 technical publications. He’s a member of the Association of Iron & Steel Technologies (AIST) and lectures in their Cold Rolling Fundamentals and Process Systems training courses. He’s also served as the Co-Principle Investigator on National Science Foundation (NSF) research into the impact of uncertainties and variability in precision rolling processes.
He has worked on virtually every form of mill arrangement and equipment configuration, along with a wide range of material types and multi-stage rolling processes. Mark has extensive operational experience and a comprehensive knowledge of the methods and techniques.
Mark has logged over 2.5 million miles of domestic and international travel, visiting and working in over 30 countries.
